performances

Zephyr Dance will present its annual Spring Concert:
April 17 and 18, 7:30 PM and April 19 at 2:00 PM
Holstein Park Auditorium, 2200 N. Oakley in Chicago.

Tickets: $15
$10 for students and seniors

Zephyr’s Spring Concert will feature the Chicago premiere of Emily Stein’s An Atlas of Here, a work for four dancers and numerous rolls of masking tape. Clothed in Tyvek dresses designed by Heidi Dakter, the dancers take the viewer on a journey that explores the terrain of an imaginary world, the landscape that arises from the intersection of ideas and movement at the moment of performance. Stein continues her exploration of geography and mapping, presenting Squared, an excerpt from Cartographica, a new work-in-progress. Squared plays with the meaning created by defining a particular segment of the dance space, and with the stories it tells and the relationships created by space and the dancers’ bodies.

Zephyr Dance Artistic Director Michelle Kranicke will present Interlude Nos. 1, 2, and 3, a series of short pieces developed from residual movement studies and ideas left over from her most recent full length work, Just Left of Remote. Interlude is a cleansing of the body from one specific set of ideas while pushing forward into new movement studies. Each piece is a sketch, an intervening episode developing from very specific select movements that evolve into an entire dance.
